Charlie Chase is 100 right. Blacks and PRS were tight in the X. I was there and I was one of them. To me black people def created hip hop music I agree with that but to a certain point cause if im wit my ngas and they askin me yo how does this sound and I give them an idea to say it another way or give em words to say say then its a collaboration period and I what I KNOW is that mad Prs did graffiti and breakdancing but the style of dress was BOTH of us. And since we all were poor we grew up 2gether we was in eachothers house daily, sleepin over spending 16 hours a day together, hustling, etc etc. So We have adopted each others culture in many ways. I do think people like Lord Jamal misunderstand, or other black people NOT from the X or NYC... think that they feel PRS DID NOT CONTRIBUTE cause they Thinking THAT THEY TALKIN ABOUT PRS that just come from PR fresh off the plane and yes THEY DIDNT invent, create, hip hop I agree. But what I'm and KRS is talkin about PRs who parents were born here. Ill break it down...MY grandparents were born in PR in 1908-1920 came over in 1940, my moms born HERE in 1950 and IM born in 1970 in the PJ's so For me I gladly admit my culture is black and puerto rican culture no question cause thats who I hung and was raised wit. Many PRs who were born here barely speak spanish but understand it because of their parents or grandparents( depends how many generations were born here). My moms never spoke spanish to me I understand cause of my grandparents ONLY. So I speak chop yow its called or like messed up spanish but enough to get by. And when I had children, I didnt speak spanish.. Just my regular south X hood language, cause everyone from the hood knows we have different slang,words, understandings etc than lets say wh people do. For example in the hood we DO NOT call people by their 1st and last names EVER...they always have aliases or short names..or just an initial... only Wh areas do that or refer to people wit their whole name. Thats ok, Im just pointing out the difference.. People from any real hood know what I mean. So for all the Prs born here during the time before Hip Hop was created we were part of the culture too. Just not the creators of the music like that that. Thats ok, my brothers can get the credit idc hes MY brother. Fun fact# Prince markie D from the fat boys was PR so was superlover C (girls I got em locked), thats just a few and they from the early 80s. Dont get it twisted to me Hip Hop is collard greens with adobo seasoning. HIp Hop has 5 elements MCing- Most Black some PR DJing- Many Blk and Many PR Breakdancing- Most PR and some Blk Graffiti-Most PR and some Blk Fashion- MOST PR and MOST Blk. JUST LIKE WHERE ITS FROM THE 5 BOROS which they all came together to form Voltron... oh sorry.. I meant HIP HOP. Voltron was dope though. Most of Yall dont know about that.
